Good morning all.
Mosie still having problems with slugs, they are a pest. Maybe you could gather as many as you can from your garden put them in a bag. Then take them for a nice ride in your car and then dump them in the country side. Take them out the bag of course.

They seem to be hiding from the heat, so life is looking up.
My big sunflowers are dying back, the petals have gone and the heads are hanging low. Is just leaving them alone the best thing to do ,so that the birds get them? Or do I need to intervene in any way?

I believe that it is possible to collect the seeds, dry them out and resow them next year. On the other hand you would get a lot of enjoyment watching the birds eat the seeds.

The only thing that worries me about letting the birds help themselves is the amount of accidental seed sowing there would be and giant sunflower weeds replacing dandelions all over next year! (It's looking on the bright side that keeps me going)

You could alwats eat then yourself, unless you are allergic. (cut the flowerhead off, put into a paper bad and hang upside down so seeds will drop off. Soak o/n in salted water then roast.
Or - let then prout in winter and eat the sprouts

I have enough to try all 3, leaving them for the birds is the lazy option.

Or you could buy a hamster, they love em, or a giant press and make some oil and fry your chips (see recipe for Glasgow Salad) in it. (Not as good as lard or dripping) bis suitable for vegans (or plant haters as I calls em).
BTW I've just been usurped from my chair by one of my pestie westies. I cant get it back by force cos a) he looks so cute an peaceful b) he could go for my throat c) I've got a gargantuan boil on my bottom.
To hell with this Jeremy Kyle is coming on and I need my seat back. Its the only seat off the main thoroughfare through the living-room that provides totally uniterupted viewing. Throat guard on - goggle - goal keeper gloves - paint face with woad.

I don't watch JK but I am seriously addicted to the antiques programmes. I'll find something one day at the school jumble sale!
