Hi all,

So I'm 18 and my dad was diagnosed about 18 months ago at the age of 49, it has taken me these last 18 months to start to get my head around PD, and I now feel ready to start to find out more about PD.

My dad has his good days and his bad days, some bad days have been very scary, including problems with his driving and speech.

My close friends know about my dad but its not always easy to talk to them about him and PD, although one friends dad also has PD and I can talk to him easiest of all.
By joining this I hope to find others who I can talk to and learn more from.

Hi Steph and welcome to the forum. You've come to the right place. You will be able to take full advantage of our collective wisdom and experience. It is typical of Parkinson's that the symptoms vary considerably from day to day. Also everyone's symptoms are different. That is why it is sometimes called a designer disease. Give your dad all the love, support and encouragement you can and above all stay cheerful (not easy I know). Look forward to hearing from you. wink

Thankyou :)
Its taken a lot for me to accept whats happening and going to happen, and I still struggle talking face to face about it to people, I just hope that in time it gets easier.

hi steph

welcome to the forum. i am so glad you now feel able to talk about your dad. it is very scary when someone you love becomes ill.

i have an 18 year old son myself and i can see the worry in his face when i am having a bad day. It breaks my heart that he should be dealing with this at his age.

Try to stay positive for you Dad, believe me it helps. Be there for him but have your own life too, go out and have fun and live your life, everything is not about PD..

Hope to chat soon

Caroline

Hi Steph, it's not easy to accept PD or to watch a loved one have bad days, all you can do is try to stay positive and carry on with life as normal as possible, it'll get easier to talk about in time and if you have any concerns or questions, just ask on here and I'm sure someone will be able to help.
Take Care! x

Thanks to all of you, for being so welcoming.

Not having a great night tonight, dads not been too bad today, although his tremors been more noticeable to me today.
But the one person who I can always turn to about PD, his dad has it too, wasnt able to come over as his dads in hospital due to the PD, since his dads been in hospital I havent seen him, and things today with his dad aren't good...its things like that that get to me the most about PD as it makes me realise how my dad could be over time :/

Dear Steph

The best advice I was given by my PD nurse is "never compare yourself to anyone else with PD". Everyone is different, we all progress at different rates so try not to worry.
