I was just taking a look at the purpose of this section as we’ve been thinking about ways to highlight some of the great support the community have to offer.
We already know our search is not brilliant. But even if it worked perfectly, it wouldn’t give any indication of where the best conversations are.
So, I want to ask for your help to make the forum easier to use for community members and the recently anthology that came out of the poetry section got me thinking…
If you have five minutes, please tell me:
What threads in this section would you want to highlight to people who are new to the forum?
What do you think is the best this section has to offer?

I’ll start:
Curled toes: http://bit.ly/LJ1WDa
Why do I think this one is good?
Well, for one, it got a real range of responses.
It might not have been immediately clear that this problem was related to Parkinson’s.
But by the end of the thread not only did the person posting learn that there were others who were facing the same thing.
There were also useful tips and signposting to products and resources that might help to manage the problem.

Might I suggest the "excess production of saliva" thread?
(I am afraid that I am unable to locate the actual thread, but this is the subject matter.)
My reasons being - whilst it may seem unimportant in the scheme of things, it seems to be a very common problem for pwp and can result in unpleasant consequences eg choking, feeling sick etc. And there are tips ranging from making sure that one swallows often, to requesting a referral to a speech therapist

Hello Ezinda,
I don't know if this has been covered before but what about 'Care for the Care giver ie Carer's' or looking after carer's/spouses health. this is so often ignored or put off because the carer hasn't the energy or time. They may be overwhelmed with just getting through the day as I was.
best wishes

Hi Vivian,
There is (what I think is) a really good thread on this topic here:
Being a carer: http://bit.ly/LkOW7s
I'll go ahead and set up a similar thread in the Carers, friends and family section and if you think this is a good one, I can add this there.
Thanks both of you!

I think- question on movement difficulty-i chose this thread cus it got few people talkin about movement they are strugglin with with pd,cramps dysontnia, etc, i find if a thread is opened by someone with difficultys and asking questions to other people with pd,wontin to no if there symtoms are the same, etc, this sets off folks chattin about there feelings, there aches and pains etc.it gives lite wot pd is like, and not a cover up,and i think thats wot should happin ,threads able to let people speak of there problems freely ,cus at end of the day we are all in the same boat, and we need each other for help and suport, and thats wot this forum is all about, helpin the community.

I think anything that stresses the importance of a positive mental attitude and a cheerful, optimistic outlook with tips on how to achieve this is of value. Not easy with PD I know. I have written quite a few posts on this forum trying to cheer people up but this is not at all easy without sounding flippant. I think one or two people must have thought I was mocking them.

Keeping a positive mental attitude is very important, when me and my h are feeling positive we are both better in health, if he or I are feeling negative it definitely affects his ability to walk and this has been confirmed by his neuro love Sunray

Hi Christo and sunray,
It probably would be very useful to a new member of the forum to see a thread dealing with positive mental attitude.
I spent some time looking in this section (Health and wellbeing) today and got as far as January 2011 but unfortunately, did not find anything.
But, I 'll continue to look.
If you happen to remember details about one or come across a thread that you thought was particularly good, do let us know.
