The union chap says that not to ask for ill health redundancy as he will not get a lot of money.but hope that they will stand him down and he will get 2 years take home pay. he has been with the company 29 1/2 years.feel very let down and thought he would have got more through ill health terrible amount and really worried about how we'll manage,we have appoinment with disability group tomorrow to fill out dla forms.
Do we tell his work he's going to try and come back,he says he doesnt think he could,as its to stressfull.
I wish the tests were all over and our finacies were all in order.i feel like a ostrich and want to put my head in the sand.
he also got his appointment for datscan, do they inject the stuff into the arm and is it painfull?he goes 13th feb,he was supposed to go in as day case to get other tests down but we only got that appointment,so i think i might need to give them a call.

Hi Chattymiss,

Just a few points. Try to get a union rep to be with you when the HR visitor comes round and try not to agree to anything during the visit except to think about everything that is said. Prepare in advance and ask as many questions as you can think of - write them down so you don't forget them. Have a look at the PD society's website as I am sure they have an employment advisor and you could speak with them on the phone.

The DAT injection doesn't hurt at all and it is a good objective test for PD.

Best of luck with both of these.

Hi Chattymiss

I'm sure your husband is entitled to more than that. In cases of normal redundancy there is a statutory legal minimum. For normal redudancies is 1 weeks pay for every year up to a maximum of 20 years and if you are over 4? then its 1.5 weeks.

As has been advised call the PD Society and have a chat to one of their specialists. They seem to have specialists in most fields and when I have called they have been most helpful.

I do really hope that this visit is not about redundancy etc because your husbands company have a legal duty of care to him. If he is unable to work due to his PD I do think that there may be a case for discrination or even unfair dismissal but once again you would need to seek advice. These days they just can't get rid of you because you are not well. They have to legally try to accommodate you in another position or try and make the position you are in as best they can for you.

I know about the duty of care because my OH had to have an interview with his HR people too. They wrote to his Consultant, who wrote to him asking persmission to send a letter which he enclosed a copy of. OH had to write back OK or amend but it was OK. Consultant then sent it to HR Department. HR Department were fine with it.

Sorry can't be more helpful but please do ring the PD helpline.

Take care Chattymiss ... sending virtual hugs and my thoughts are with you.
