One of the symptoms of Parkinson's that's rarely mentioned is the pain. Every time my symptoms recur, I get the most excruciating pains. They're like muscle aches and cramps rolled into one. My left is my affected side, so when it happens I tend to spend a lot of time fidgeting to try to alleviate it. Yet, when I look on various websites descriptions of the symptoms of Parkinson's either gloss over it, or don't mention pain! Which is annoying because it's as debilitating as the other symptoms.
Does anyone else have the same kind of symptoms? And what do you do about it when they strike?
interested to know

Dear djemm,
I know exactly what you mean about pain. My GP prescribed some strong pain killers which did not touch it. A friend of mine massages my back which helps for a little while.
I am being referred to a physio which might help.
Perhaps you could get your GP to do the same.
Or ask your local OT for a referral.

Hiya,
I get pain and cramps in my back / buttock area a lot. I was given a tip which helps relieve the pain: put a small rubber ball into a sock (a rubber dog ball slightly smaller than tennis ball size). Lean against a wall and roll the ball around the affected area using your body weight to apply pressure (you can hold onto the sock so the ball doesn't shoot off all over the place!). This seems to relax the muscles and the pain becomes less intense.
kind regards
Gazelle

Morning
Quite often the pain is related to dystonia, which is very commom in people with PD.I get it in my leg and arm, with shooting pains of late in my feet.I am told that Sinemet can cause it.
THe best way I have found is to relax as much as possible, massage can help.If the pain persists in a specific area, drugs can also help.
I think you first need some help in determining what's causing it.It may not be your PD at all-even though we tend to assume it is.

Hi all,
I too suffer with a lot of pain, my hands and feet ache all over and my arms feel like Ive been lifting heavy weights. Sometimes even using my knife and fork actually hurt. It pretty horrible and for about the last 3 months I havent had one day without if. I did mention it to me neuro last time I saw him...almost a year ago....but he just told me to take the pain killer but surely this cannot be the answer.

Hi all
I had terrible joint pains when I was on Sinemet = so bad that I couldn't get out of bed or out of a chair without help. Everything hurt. I am not on Stalevo and although I'm not exactly pain free (I am 64 tomorrow so can't expect miracles) I have a new lease of life.

Hi djemm and others,
I have some pain, with the spasms, but its not severe. My left side has been first affected, but this week I noticed that now I'm having spasms in my right foot, plus now I've got numbness in both legs, more severe in the left. THis extends from the top of my thigh down to my toes. Its been pretty constant since Monday this week, when I first noticed it. DOes anyone else have numbness?
I'm now scheduled to see the Neurologist on June 24th. They wanted to give me an Oct. date??? I told them that my GP wanted me to see the spec. right away.
I first noticed the curling of my left foot about 6 mo. ago, but was not aware it could be significant.
Then had nothing new, until May 1st ...
My OH still does not pay attention when I tell him I've had muscle spasms....trying to figure out how to get him to understand I'm worried, as this is probably serious. I will have to soon....as I need him to drive me -my first visit is way out of my "comfort zone" for driving....towards Boston.
After that they said, that they could schedule me for visits nearby with that same doc. I have a feeling he won't take it serious at first....perhaps if I mention that no one took his fibromyalgia serious at first, either. Drove him nuts! They thought it was all in his head.
I do hope all of you with severe pains find a fix for it soon....must be awful. I can only relate...as having severe migraine headaches, or pains of childbirth...
Let us know if you find a solution.....!
