Such good poetry is found here that I sometimes feel reticent to follow it. However , this is really just for myself.

BEYOND

See the sun shine in the sky
See the snake slither over the grass
See the waves lap peacefully
See the shark so silently pass.

Hear the birds sing in the trees
Hear the dogs bark on the hunt
Hear the ducks quack as they swim
Hear the voices shout on the punt.

Smell the whiff of baking bread
Smell the whining of the poor
Smell the comfort of our house
Smell the beggars at the door.

Feel the joy from friends and kin
Feel the jealousy of those who've none
Feel the warmth of all around
Feel the pain of an empty gun.

SIDE BY SIDE
(i)

Troubled times
Child of mine
Let me stroke
That brow of thine.
Tell me all
All your woes
Feel the thorn
Smell the rose.

Good days come
Wait my child
Badness gone
Good things piled.
Now forever
Hear me say
Evil has not
Come to stay.

Oh happiness
Just for you
Skip for joy
I skip too.
Can you hear
Shouts so loud
You are lost
Beneath a cloud.

The birds squawk
The cattle lows
The geese screech
And who knows.
The sky's dark
The rain lashes
The thunder claps
The lightning flashes.

Nowhere around
To be seen
Fearsome night
Gruesome screen.
Child now gone
Hidden from view
Fully grown up
Who are you.

(ii)

Troubled times
Mum of mine
Let me stroke
That brow of thine.
Tell me all
All your woes
Feel the thorn
Smell the rose.

Good days come
Wait my mum
Badness gone
Good things some.
Now forever
Hear me say
Evil has not
Come to stay.

Oh happiness
Just for you
Sing for joy
I sing too.
Can you hear
Shouts so loud
You are lost
Beneath a cloud.

The birds squawk
The cattle lows
The geese screech
And who knows.
The sky's dark
The rain lashes
The thunder claps
The lightning flashes.

Nowhere around
To be seen
Fearsome night
Gruesome screen.
Mum now gone
Hidden from view
Had her day
Where are you.

Do writers, poets, craftsmen or artists
Need the approbation of others?
Or is the art of creating enough
To feel no reply is not a rebuff?

To receive praise and admiration
Is always of course very welcome
But not all of us are critics at heart
We sit back in awe at what you impart

Our silence does not mean we're not impressed
Creative Corner's not a contest
Suffice it to say, if indeed I may
ALL your poems welcome every day

Thank you ab - I got your message about the book. Also, I apologise to anyone waiting for a book - my computer has gone on strike - and keeps losing messages.

I take your point ab.

Hi Lin,
Whether someone notices or not.Is I suppose important yet unimportant to me.Sure,it's nice when somebody is moved enough by what you have written,to comment. To me,posting poems and such on the forum is a release. Some people will read, some people may skim over. Some people may feel empathy, sadness, anger,or even tire of sad/dark themes.Or grimace at the light and happy ones.
The important thing is the expression, the release, letting it out,a sort of diary in poetic form.I print off all I post now.In event of everything being lost.As for things like Mervyn Peakes awards or other competitions.I do not enter, they do not interest me.Poetry is not a competition to me.There can be more sentiment and meaning in just one line, than a hundred by another. Also,we all have our own preferences and just because we don,t comment on here does not mean that those poems "comment less" are not read.
I read all the poems posted on here, but rarely comment. Each one has its own personal touch and flare and to all who bother to read this.I admire them all.
My membership plus extra donation towards pd UK for your fabulous contribution of the poetry book Lin,has been sent off today.
All the best
Titan

Thank you, Titan. You make perfect sense and I miss our online chats. I do like praise and feel sad when people pass by without saying something - obviously, I crave approval. But annebernadette and you are right - it is not necessary and indeed, I don't need it.However, certain poems I am really proud of and want to know if they move you, make you think, laugh, cry, anything at all. Losers was one of these poems.
Simple answer - I will ask if I want to know what you think.

Keep writing - and where has everybody gone?

Perhaps everyone is watching football
Although I've no idea if it's on at all
Lin. you don't need to worry, fret or bawl
Your poetic talent holds us all enthralled

You like me, like to read
Poetry in this corner
Where poets never fail to succeed
With a verse that can simply amaze
So sing someone's praise, if you feel the need
Kind comments are alway's lovely to receive

Poetry is a story or an emotion in rhyme
Of anger, sadness, joy and things gone by
A place of expression, not something to be won
Somewhere to offload, when all's said and done!!

At last we are talking to each other - I love to talk to people - just like my Dad used to do.I'm not one for silence - perhaps you have noticed!

There's nothing I like better than to sit and have a chat,
With visitors who come here and cross the welcome mat.
I am extremely happy when the door admits a friend,
Who will listen to my rantings without going round the bend!

Can someone carry on and add a little more?
It's time I was downstairs with the man that I adore.
He's watched the football match so it's time for me to go
Find out what he's done today and what else he might know!

So much for that connexion - he is watching the T.V.,
Sherlock Holmes or something that he's found on DVD.
My daughter's scanning facebook, the dog is fast asleep,
So once more I'm alone with a silence that's too deep.

Lin asked can someone carry on and add a bit more, so here's four lines from me. It will be interesting to see where we take each other.

Let your imagination run wild, let it be free
Lest we be shackled by our bodies inabilities
Soar above clouds raise your heart beat
Meet me on Cloud nine, no need to be discreet.

Cloud nine sounds rather flimsy, for a hefty lass like me,
Let's all meet down in London, the Queen I'd like to see!
But trains are way too pricey and my walking's not too good
So perhaps I'll stay in Yorkshire, yes, I really think I should.
