Written about 40 years ago:-

Destruction

"The fiery furnace
blazed furiously within...
The frozen ice was hard..."
But the picture was
marred
By a critical,
hurtful and social being
Who could not see
and yet insisted
that he was
right,
Who could not feel
and yet demanded
we watch him
light
the way for us
we watch him
strike
Down our tableau
we watch him
hide
Behind a screen...
Instigator
of so much
strife
in
life...
Instigating
so many
lies
and
cries.

Another oldie:-

A black star now shines
in the bright blue skies
indicating
lies
midst the apparent
immaculate sheen
of some people.
Queen
of hypocrisy
in a land of gall,
I pity us
all.

Day's End

The dark mountains like inverted curtains stand,
Mesmerised,
Imposing,immovable frames,to natures watery stage,
As if awe struck,
Ancient witnesses to a heavenly pyrotechnic show,
Starring a million shafts of light that dance upon a hundred thousand aqua mirrors,
Strobed by the passing clouds, the wind and waves,
Coloured by the majestic sun,
Centre stage until the phantom night his black cape swirls,
And another day is done!

FOOTBALL

Sat watching the football with a glass of wine
Hoping England will score before half-time
Come on boys we need to win
Listen to the fans as they sing
Come on England, Come on England

I pour another glass of wine
Only to calm these nerves of mine
Of excitement, anxious, dread and fear
Listen to the crowd as they cheer
Come on England, Come on England

Bottle now empty, I'm sorry to say
It's no good for me watching England play
Have shouted twice at the referee
Not sure why as he can't hear my plea
Such a stressful game this can be
Listen to the crowd as they shout "Rooney"

Very passionate about the England team
European Cup might just be a dream
But however this game has to end
I will shout with pride for England

"Come England"

This poem is very tongue in cheek - well - sort of!! I have written three booklets of football poems!

Hull City then yes, I would have sat there
But England, no way do I want to share.
The money they earn makes no sense at all,
Running on grass just kicking a ball!

Hands I see now, raised in the air
What madness you say, how do I dare?
Not support England, our national team,
When winning a cup could be more than a dream.

Your dream has been shattered, I’m sorry to say,
So no more of England on that field of play,
Come home to their mansions and beautiful girls,
With fantastic bodies and long golden curls.

I know that I’m jealous, but that’s ‘cos I’m old,
Frumpy and fat, by sell date not sold!
But it gets me so mad to see their pampered lives
Giving weight to the saying only fittest survives.

How many bottles were emptied tonight?
How many fans will get into a fight?
All this for England, that footballing team,
Drowning their sorrows singing God Save The Queen.

Don't know how that happened but I am rather distracted. The moon looks amazing tonight. It is red and hanging in the sky like one of those Chinese Lanterns.
I don't think I have ever seen it like this before.

The England team come home today
They played their best, well so they say
It simply was not good enough
Beaten on the night by a better team
That is the end of a shattered dream
AGAIN

Quite true Lin,
Here is my view on it

Global Shame Airing
-----------------------------
I never support England when it comes to football
They are so full of themselves, why, who are they?
Just ordinary people who blessed with Two feet
Kick a ball around for extravagant pay

It makes me feel sick that doing what they enjoy
An interest,a passtime to most
Gold Diggers for partners, some call them wags
Bleed them dry, their monetary blood sucking host

Most players have faces that have gone through a mangle
Have the charm and the wit of a fly
To receive such high pay is a kick in the teeth
Plus an injustice to all those struggling by

Who get through every month by scraping the barrel
As the Wolves bay and scratch at their door
Yet breezing through life in flash cars parked at mansions
Footballers wages mock the needy and poor

How can it be proper or considered okay
That these fools pose and high roll around
Kick a ball without passion, then demand cash increases
Because paying idiots flock to each football ground

You see them in droves, cues of traffic bear witness
To those people, mainly on each Saturday
Who along with their kids, pay exorbitant prices
To watch these players, further hiking their pay

Fans who pocket the cost and trudging back home
Feeling victorious,deflated,or a mixture
Then after kicking the Cat or fondly stroking the Dog
Look brainlessly towards the next rip-off fixture

The children pick up on the language that's choice!
With the belligerant, spoilt display on the pitch
They copy and learn from those on the terraces
Plus the players who beguile and bewitch

Think of the violence caused by some matches
Those spoilt children watching learn a lack of respect
They mimic their idols who snug in their cribs
Live their dream, don,t care or even reflect

On the stupidity of fans funding what used to be fun
Yet,has been allowed to grow to financial extremes
Years ago players played for the love of their Town
Now its all about the money it seems

The passion has gone, the game has left with it
Diving,faking,shirt pulling and swearing
Spitting and fighting and crowd fury igniting
This all seen in this "Global Shame Airing"

At the end of the day,I see a sickening display
Both on the pitch and then hyped in the press
Where everybody involved is financially bound
It is so obvious but beyond me to address

The financial implications, how many clubs are in debt
Others milk greedily in this sickening display
It will continue as well, why? For Football junkies it's fixed
Who shoot up,take the penalty and pay

My husband sat before the screen
To watch the footballers play.
The match was not the best he'd seen,
With footballers' feet like clay.

Nevertheless he sat enthralled,
Filled with hope that England would win,
But it seemed like both the teams just bawled,
"Don't let a single goal in!"

Finally they ran out of breath
And a penalty shoot out ensued.
Goals went in midst a gritting of teeth
But some were missed , and that was no good.

England are out of the UEFA cup game
While Italy to the semis advance.
There'll be much talk about who's to blame,
But who cares? Let's all sing and dance1
