Thank you for the explanation. I was expecting the bold / italics to appear on my message. Now I know they appear only when posted I`ll try again.

Hi Ali j
Sorry to hear you lost your post - I know how frustrating that is.
We recommend when you are writing a long post that you draft it in Word or notepad - to avoid losing your work if for any reason your internet connection drops off or your login expires or session eventually times out. From personal experience this definitely helps reduce the stress levels! It's not just for the forum - it would apply equally when you are writing a long email, a Facebook post, document etc.

Best, Liz

Hi Ali
Unfortunately it's very difficult to say exactly why one person's computer might time out as everyone's circumstances and computer settings are different. Our forum settings are configured for long session times to allow sufficient time for creating posts. This is never completely failsafe though which is why we recommend copying and pasting your draft text into Word. If you're not confident doing this, perhaps ask someone who is familiar with this to show you how to select text, and copy and paste.

Best, Liz

Ali here are some tips

Write all you posts in word pad, or word, or notepad and save it. I keep calling my file 'barf' and it keeps overwriting the previous file. As funny as I find myself, I don't much want to keep them. Unless I want reminding how bad my grammar is.

The save is important for those of us with wandering fingers.

Safest method of cut & paste (use the mouse)
Click on 'Edit' then 'Select All'
Click on 'Edit' then 'Copy'
Get back to the forum in your message box, right click anywhere in the box , then left click on Paste

Preview it, edit it, add smileys, take photos, have some more Tea, think on what you've said. Check on T's&C's.

Click post. More tea.

Fastest method of cut & paste(keyboard)
Control-A
Control-C
Get back to the forum in your message box, right click anywhere in the box , then left click on Paste

The biggest prob for us pwp's is after we 'Select All' or Cntrl-A our text is in jeopardy as the next key press affects all your text. For example I kept missing Cntrl and pressing Shift instead then pressing 'C'. This would cause all my text to disappear only forsave a capital bloody 'C'. Hours of witisism right down the pan. But fear not. We have the technology, we can rebuild it.

If this happens to you. Don't PANIC. Take a deep breath click on 'Edit' then 'Undo'. Thats Cntrl -Z for you mouse haters.

Hope this helps.

This may appear a couple of steps too far, but it has saved me a few times.

Ezinda, at the risk of embarrassing you, i just want to publicly say a BIG THANK YOU for everything you done over the last year. You truly have embraced the changes that were much needed, when i came to the role of moderators on this forum. You always lead by example, with your friendly, helpful and interactive style.

Many forum users are probably unaware, but i had the absolute pleasure of working with Ezinda a few months ago on the launch of our Impulsive/Compulsive Behaviours forum section. Believe me having met and worked with Ezinda in person, i can assure everyone she is the real deal. Ezinda cares passionately about her work and about people living with Parkinson's. She always goes about her day striving to be as helpful and supportive as one can be, in an effort to make things better for us all. If there were more people in the world like Ezinda, life for us Parki's would be just that bit more bearable.

Steve Ford, if you read my post i have a message for you:

If Parkinson's UK was the Times charity of the year, then Ezinda is my nomination to be your employee of the year...........

keep up the good work Ezinda.

Best wishes
blueeyes
