Improving access to services in Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire
County
Neurological Information and Access Partnership
The Neurological Information and Access Partnership (NIAP)
project was launched in May 2009 to ensure that people in
Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County with neurological
conditions, including Parkinson's, have clearer access to
appropriate provision and services.
Rehabilitation services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy play a key role in
the management of neurological conditions.
NIAP is funded by the Department of Health and managed by us.
The partnership is working closely with local authorities,
statutory agencies and neurological charities.
Survey
During August and September 2009 two separate surveys were
carried out in the Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County
areas.
The first survey was for health and social care professionals
and the second, for people with neurological conditions, including
Parkinson's, and their carers.
The surveys contained questions about access to services,
barriers to services and ideas for improvements.
Findings
Findings from these surveys are being used to influence future
service provision creating clearer pathways to neurological
rehabilitation, information and advice.
