Mervyn Peake Awards

Celebrating the creativity of people with Parkinson's

Mervyn Peake 2007 exhibition at Westminster Cathedral

Launched by the Parkinson's Disease Society [now Parkinson's UK] and the Peake family in 2002, the Mervyn Peake Awards celebrate the creative achievements of people with Parkinson's in art, poetry and photography.

The awards are held in memory of the late illustrator, writer and poet Mervyn Peake (1911–1968), who had Parkinson's.

Mervyn Peake's works included Gormenghast and the Alice in Wonderland illustrations.

Mervyn Peake Awards 2010

Many thanks and congratulations to everyone who has entered the Awards this year. We've had a fantastic wealth of creativity with 428 entries across the 3 categories - art, poetry and photography. We would like to applaud the creative talents of people with Parkinson's and the wonderful variety of work submitted.

Judging process

Each year Fabian Peake, Sebastian Peake and Clare Peñate - whose father was Mervyn Peake - kindly take time to view the work and read all the poems.

The judges met in May and deliberated over the winner and commended entries in each category. The selection process was as difficult as ever and the judges were extremely impressed with the standard of work.
