Hardest Hit event on disability benefits, Bristol
A big thank you to everyone affected by Parkinson's
who came out in Bristol on Saturday 22 October 2011, as part
of the
Hardest Hit rallies and marches that took place across the
UK.
Around 5,000 people came out at rallies and marches across the
UK to show government just how unfair these cuts are.
The message to government was that people with disabilities and
conditions such as Parkinson's are being unfairly targeted by the
coalition government's cuts programme.
You can see all our photos from the weekend's marches and
rallies across the UK on our
Flickr page.
The Parkinson's Challenge heats up!
During May 2011, 2 teams from north and south England
took part in the 'Parkinson’s Challenge'.
Each team ran, walked, jogged, cycled, swam or used any
human-powered means available to cover 2,011 miles throughout the
month, raising money for - and awareness of - Parkinson’s.
The inspiration for this challenge was Derelys Campbell from
Shrivenham near Swindon, who has had Parkinson’s for over 10
years. However, everyone involved with the challenge has been
affected by Parkinson’s in some way, whether due to their
relationship with Derelys or other family ties.
The team clocked up over 4,500 miles over the course of the
month and raised over £7,000! A huge thank you to everyone who took
part in the challenge and sponsored the teams!

Bath Branch celebrates 25 years
Members of the South West regional team attended a
networking lunch and subsequent presentations at Bath Royal United
Hospital on Tuesday 12 April 2011 to celebrate Parkinson's Awareness Week.
The event was organised by Dr Dorothy Robertson, Chair of the
hospital's Parkinson's Steering Group and guests included
volunteers from Bath Branch, Malmesbury Branch, Devizes Support Group and our chief executive
Steve Ford.
A trolley dash was created with a bed frame covered
in Parkinson's information arriving
unexpectedly on the wards which created a lot of interest.
Bath Branch's 25th Anniversary was also celebrated!
There is now an area of the Royal United Hospital Staff Intranet
dedicated to Parkinson's thanks to Dr Robertson, so staff can
access information immediately.
New support group in Tavistock
Volunteers have started a new local
group to support people with Parkinson's, their families and carers in
Tavistock, Devon. The
group will meet from 10.30am on the last Tuesday of the month at
the Anchorage Centre in Tavistock.
Neil Smart, Regional Manager said: "I'm delighted to hear that a
new group of Parkinson's UK has been established in Tavistock
offering support, information and friendship to anyone living with
Parkinson's. Local support is so important and I'm sure that the
group will develop into a vital link in the community."
