Tracking Parkinson's study launched in Northern Ireland
At a special event at Queen's University Belfast on Friday 20
April 2012, Northern Ireland announced its involvement in our new
Tracking Parkinson's study.
Tracking Parkinson's is the world's largest ever in-depth study
into Parkinson's, which we launched in Parkinson's Awareness Week.
Northern Ireland's Chief Medical Officer, Dr Michael McBride,
has welcomed the study.
Newry Branch during Parkinson's Awareness Week
Our Newry
Branch had a fantastic information stand and cake sale during
Parkinson's Awareness Week!

eye-catching stand.
They raised a brilliant £480 (in conjunction with Deli Lites) at
their cake sale in the Quays Shopping Centre, Newry. Well done!

You can make a difference
We have 5 local champions working closely with our Northern
Ireland team to improve health and social care services for people
with Parkinson's.
Jim Henry, one of our champions says:
"As a local champion I promote the work of Parkinson's UK and
the Lisburn Branch within my own area,
ie the South Eastern Trust. I've spoken on both radio and
television about Parkinson's and its implications for those who
live with it. Also of the valuable work which Parkinson's UK is
doing to help alleviate the stress which the condition causes.
"Being a champion gives me the opportunity to do my bit for
Parkinson's."
The local champions meet about 4 times a year to support each
other. If you feel that you would like to make a difference to
health and social services for people living with Parkinson's in
your area please contact Esther McQuillan, Service Development
Officer on 0844 225 3683 or isdo.northernireland@parkinsons.org.uk
We're particularly interested to hear from people in the Belfast
Trust and the Southern Trust as we don't currently have any local
champions based in these areas.
Get involved in volunteering
There are lots of opportunities to volunteer with us in Northern
Ireland, from joining one of our local branch committees, to
helping us at events or being volunteer educators or local
champions. All new volunteers receive an induction and support from
our team.

would love to hear from you. To find out more, contact:
