Noodle relay for Parkinson's Awareness Week 2012

Noodle brain cell toyNoodle's relay was a fun way to raise awareness of the need to fund research, and the support available to the 10,000 people with Parkinson's and their families who live in the Yorkshire and Humber region.

He took on a incredible 470 mile relay around the Yorkshire and Humber region. For those that don't know, Noodle is our brain cell toy.

Pen a poem for Parkinson's

March 2012

Our Yorkshire and Humber team ran 'Pen a poem for Parkinson's' competition and poet, Ian McMillan was asked to judge it for us.

We had 20 entries, all of a very high standard to say the least, and Ian had a difficult task choosing! Congratulations to our competition winner, Phil Beckett - here's Phil's poem:

The Parkinson Shark

As you swim through the ocean of life
watch out for the danger sign
for the Parkinson Shark may be searching
for a victim upon whom to dine.

This beast has predatory instincts
as you swim you should move with great care
and try not to cause any ripples
so the shark will not know you are there.

For his teeth are so sharp once he bites you
it's unlikely that he'll let you go,
and your life will be held in the balance
So Parkinson's is all that you know.

But the shark might not live for ever
as research nets are closing the loop
and you might one day find yourself eating
a large bowl of hot shark fin soup.

Hardest Hit event on disability benefits, Leeds

Parkinson's UK supporters at the Hardest Hit in Leeds October 2011A big thank you to everyone affected by Parkinson's who came out in Leeds on Saturday 22 October 2011, as part of the Hardest Hit rallies and marches that took place across the UK.

Around 5,000 people came out at rallies and marches across the UK to show government just how unfair these cuts are.

The message to government was that people with disabilities and conditions such as Parkinson's are being unfairly targeted by the coalition government's cuts programme.

You can see all our photos from the weekend's marches and rallies across the UK on our Flickr page.
