Parkinson's Awareness Week
A huge thank you to everyone who give of their time to collect
in Reigate and Guildford - it is always worthwhile not only to
increase funds, but also to raise awareness of Parkinson’s in the
wider community.
Godalming and Villages Lions Club quiz
We recently had the pleasure of receiving a cheque for £1,100
following a quiz held by the Godalming and Villages Lions Club.
We're very grateful to them for this generous donation to our funds
and although none of our teams won the quiz, it was a lot of fun
and a very enjoyable evening for those who were there.
Trip to Isle of Wight
28 of our members went to the Bembridge Coast hotel on
the Isle of Wight at the end of May for five days and had a
most enjoyable holiday. A Round the Island tour with a pub lunch
stop was a success inspite of damp weather but the rest of the time
the sun shone. As well as an outing to Osborne House we hosted a
meeting at the hotel with some of the Isle of Wight branch members. As they say - a
good time was had by all.
Branch membership
Anyone wishing to join the branch must be a member of Parkinson's UK (annual membership fee
of £4). There is no separate branch membership fee at present.
Carers or other family members should join separately.
The more members of Parkinson's UK, the greater pressure we can
exert on government and health authorities the more money we will
have for research. Become a member
today.
Information and support
If you would like more information on Attendance Allowance and
Disability Living Allowance or help to make a claim contact our
information and support worker,
Mary Brown.
Carers' Support Services
The Carers' Support Service in Surrey offer support to carers
and provide activities for them. For example these may be a
‘pampering day’ or ‘singing days’. Other information about benefits
and services are also available. Transport and care cover can often
be arranged. Even if you don't think of yourself as a carer and are
living with someone with Parkinson's do register with your local
office just to get their newsletter.
