Guidelines for local group web editors

This section contains information for branches and support groups who want to update their pages on our website.

All branches and support groups have their own area on our website.

Please make sure your group's details are always up to date.

Remember that the website is often the first contact with Parkinson's UK for people affected by Parkinson's.

It's vital for putting people in touch with local support. So it's really important to make sure that details for your group are up to date.

Getting started

Use of our website for local group information (Word, 80KB)

This document contains questions and answers about local group information on the website and processes for submitting content.

How to send updates for your local group pages

  1. Download the branch update template (Word, 65KB)

  2. Type your text into the relevant parts of the branch update template. Only complete the sections where details have changed.
    Tips for your homepage
    Tips for your events page
    Tips for your news page

  3. Email the completed update template to web@parkinsons.org.uk

Tips on writing for the web

  • Think about your audience. Focus on new people wanting to find out about support in their local area.
  • Don't include text such as 'Contact the Secretary for more information' with no further details. New people will not know who this is.
  • Don't include jargon.
  • Write out abbreviations and acronyms in full.
  • Be as concise as possible. Write short, simple sentences. Keep paragraphs short.

How to promote your pages

Each branch and support group has a 'friendly' web address for easy access and promotion of web page, eg www.parkinsons.org.uk/portsmouth

If you don't know the address for your group and you'd like to use it, please ask the web team on web@parkinsons.org.uk or phone 020 7963 9379.

Branch and support group external websites

Some branches and support groups choose to set up their own website. If you decide to do this, you must:

  • be committed to providing the ongoing maintenance and support required to run a website
  • ensure content is up to date, accurate and in accord with the charity's messaging
  • use our logo and legal information

If the purpose of the website is to host contact information with details of news and events, it may be easier to use the service offered by our web team, as described on this page.

Keep the web team informed

Keep the web team updated with the contact details of the person in your branch who is responsible for updating your website content.

Note that this does not have to be the same person whose name appears on the site itself.
