My wife, aged 65, has dementia. She was first referred to the Memory Clinic in 2000. It took until 2011 to get a diagnosis because her condition was complex. All but one of the possibilities were eventually ruled out. The 'diagnosis of last resort' was Alzheimer's - not very convincing after all that time and investigation!
She went through a particularly awful few months around the time of the diagnosis with hallucinations, paranoid behaviour and aggression but then, fortunately, calmed got through that and is now reasonable calm and content nearly all the time.
She has now developed some Parkinson's symptoms. Currently, Sue is on Sinemet 12.5mg/50mg. This has helped. Her walking and gait generally seem to improve during the day. She is still reasonably mobile and we usually walk 3/4 mile a day.
I want to try and find out as much as I can about PD.
