Understanding Parkinson's: a guide for care staff

Option 1: In-house at your venue
We can arrange a suitable day and time with you and deliver the
training solely for your staff at your organisation's venue.
Option 2: Courses around the UK
This option, available in most parts of the UK, may be more
appropriate for your organisation if you can not provide a suitable
venue, or only have a small number of staff able to
participate.

Aims and learning outcomes
- To increase your knowledge and understanding of
Parkinson's
- To better understand the needs of people living with and caring
for people with Parkinson's
- To identify challenges associated with the symptoms of
Parkinson's and the side effects of the medication
- To dispel myths surrounding Parkinson's
- To consider the resources available, including the role of
Parkinson's UK, to improve the quality of life of people with
Parkinson's and their carers
On completion of the course, participants will be able
to:
- understand the key challenges of living with Parkinson's, such
as the challenges of mobility, communication, swallowing and the
importance of drug management
- consider strategies to address a range of challenges such as
falls, swallowing problems, drug management and mental health
issues
- recognise the role of Parkinson's UK
- evaluate their own practice and care of people with
Parkinson's
Cost
Option 1 (in-house at your venue): £100
This is the total cost to your
organisation, not per person. This includes supporting literature
for each participant.
Option 2 (individuals attending a course): £20 per
person
We have made a commitment to deliver education to health
and social care staff across the UK so our charges to external
agencies are very low.
There are occasional circumstances where charges may be waived.
Please ask us for details.
Other information
The course consists of direct teaching, DVDs and interactive
workshops with case studies, plus a range of supporting literature,
including booklets and fact sheets.
Each participant will receive a certificate of attendance.
We also run Meeting the challenges of
Parkinson's, a full day, more in-depth version of this
course.
This may be more suitable if you would like more time to address
the communication, cognitive and mental health challenges of
Parkinson's.
