3 hours

Who the course is for

Nursing homes, care homes, domiciliary and home care agencies, respite care organisations

Course dates and locations

Option 1: In-house at your venue

We can arrange a suitable day and time with you and deliver the training solely for your staff at your organisation's venue.

Option 2: Seminars around the UK

This option, available in most parts of the UK, may be more appropriate for your organisation if you can not provide a suitable venue, or only have a small number of staff able to participate.

Find out about education and training in your area to see if there's a seminar running near you.

Aims and learning outcomes

  • To increase your knowledge and understanding of Parkinson's
  • To better understand the needs of people living with and caring for people with Parkinson's
  • To identify challenges associated with the symptoms of Parkinson's and the side effects of the medication
  • To dispel myths surrounding Parkinson's
  • To consider the resources available, including the role of Parkinson's UK, to improve the quality of life of people with Parkinson's and their carers

On completion of the seminar, participants will be able to:

  • understand the key challenges of living with Parkinson's, such as the challenges of mobility, communication, swallowing and the importance of drug management
  • consider strategies to address a range of challenges such as falls, swallowing problems, drug management and mental health issues
  • recognise the role of Parkinson's UK
  • evaluate their own practice and care of people with Parkinson's

Cost

Option 1 (in-house at your venue): £100

This is the total cost to your organisation, not per person. This includes supporting literature for each participant.

Option 2 (individuals attending a seminar): £20 per person

We have made a commitment to deliver education to health and social care staff across the UK so our charges to external agencies are very low.

There are occasional circumstances where charges may be waived. Please ask us for details.

Other information

The seminar consists of direct teaching, DVDs and interactive workshops with case studies, plus a range of supporting literature, including booklets and fact sheets.

Each participant will receive a certificate of attendance.

We also run Meeting the challenges of Parkinson's, a full day, more in-depth version of this seminar. This may be more suitable if you would like more time to address the communication, cognitive and mental health challenges of Parkinson's.
