Thank you for visiting our website. We are proud to
have as our President the Dean of Canterbury, The Very Rev Robert
Willis, who takes an active interest in our Branch and hosts our
Annual Garden Gathering each summer at The Deanery, within the
Cathedral Precincts.
We meet on the second Friday of most months at 7.30pm in
the Age Concern Building, Castle Row, Canterbury CT1
2QY.
Our Branch was established in 1986 and provides extra local support
and advice. You have the chance to meet other people
in our area and take part in the activities we have
to offer, including:
- Monthly branch meetings: We meet for
a chat and to enjoy a varied programme of activities, entertainment
and visiting speakers who talk on a range of topics including
medical matters. (See our Events
Section for current information).
- Walks are arranged most months and are as
short or as long as you want them to be. They are social
occasions with gentle exercise, and we usually include a pub lunch
or cream tea. Social events and outings are also
arranged throughout the year. (See our Events Section for current information).
- Fundraising collections: Several collections
are held each year to raise funds for Branch activities
and to assist those affected by Parkinson's disease. They help to
run our Branch effectively and also enable us to
contribute to national research activities.
- Parkinson's Disease Nurse Specialists: We have
two PDNSs who come to meetings when possible, and even walks!
You can contact them with questions or problems without going
through a doctor or social worker. (See our Contacts Section).
- Therapy groups: We offer
hydrotherapy, yoga and reflexology sessions. For further
details contact our Secretary, Lesley Flowerdew, on 01227 456457 or
lesleyflowerdew@hotmail.com.
- Welfare team: Our volunteer welfare
visitors have information on respite care, holidays and equipment
and give advice on benefits currently available and help
with completing the necessary forms.
If you would like any further information on our Branch and
activities, please do not hesitate to contact us. You can download
our full branch programme
for 2008/9 in Word format here (65KB).
