What Occupational Therapy (OT) may have to offer people living with Parkinson's: An article by Jansa, Aragon and Lundgren-Nilsson

How people living with Parkinson's Disease in 4 European countries view Occupational TherapyThis article, published online in the European Neurological Journal, has the full title 'How People Living with Parkinson's Disease in Four European Countries View Occupational Therapy.'

It explores how contemporary OT practice encompasses a much broader approach than just assessment and provision of adaptive aids and equipment.

The authors discuss how OT aims to optimise independence of people affected by Parkinson's, using a variety of methods to improve coping and social participation.

The experiences and opinions of 230 people with Parkinson's are reported, although only about half of the survey respondents had recieved OT since the diagnosis of their condition. The information was gathered through a survey about OT and will be of interest to OTs, multi-disciplinary teams, as well as to carers and people with Parkinson's.
