Help with the cost of mobility equipment and disability aids
Who pays for mobility equipment and disability aids will depend
on the type of equipment you need and the funding available in your
local area, or from other sources of funding.
Claim forms can be long and complicated. Stick with it - you can increase your income.

Some voluntary organisations or trusts have funds for equipment,
but each will have their own eligibility criteria.
We've put together a useful list of
organisations that may be able to provide funds or advise on
where to find funding for mobility equipment and disability
aids.
Benefits you're entitled to claim
If you're disabled you may be entitled to Attendance Allowance
or Disability Living Allowance.
These are benefits to help disabled people meet the extra cost
of living expenses relating to their disability. This includes
equipment.
If you are on certain kinds of benefits you may be eligible for
a grant from the Social Fund, a government fund that makes
financial payments to people in need.
We have a range of free publications that can give you more
details:
Exemption from VAT on mobility equipment
Some goods may qualify for VAT relief, including some
adaptations to your home, certain pieces of equipment and emergency
alarm call systems.
DirectGov can help you find out if you qualify for VAT
exemption.
