Why we changed to Parkinson's UK
We changed our name from the Parkinson's Disease Society
to Parkinson's UK on 8 April 2010 - with a bold new look.
But we didn't change just for the sake of it, and we didn't take
the decision to change lightly.
For more than 40 years we've been working to improve life for
people living with Parkinson's.
In that time we've achieved a lot.
We've spent more than £50million on research, secured over 300 specialist
Parkinson's nurses and provided information, friendship and support
to hundreds of thousands of people.
But we've still got a lot to do to reach everyone who needs us.
And we still don't have a cure. So there is much more for us to
do.
Our ambitious plans
In the year leading up our change to Parkinson's UK,
we talked and listened to lots of people to find out how we
can improve what we do and what we need
to change.
This helped us identify a clear vision for the future - to find
a cure and improve life for everyone affected by Parkinson's.
We have a 5-year strategy
(2010-2014) to drive us to achieve our vision, and want to
raise over £110million to support our work.
We're now more determined than ever to find a cure and improve
life for everyone affected by Parkinson's.
