Jane Asher
Actress, author and our President
"I
first learnt about Parkinson's as a child, from my doctor father,
who was clearly distressed by the effects it had on his
patients.
"But it wasn't until someone close to me was diagnosed – my
much-loved brother-in-law - that I saw for myself the
irrevocable and cruel physical (and sometimes mental) symptoms that
Parkinson's involves.
"Efforts to improve the treatment and management of Parkinson's
are continuing around the world, and I feel we're tantalisingly
close to finding the breakthrough that could make the disease less
disabling and traumatic to live with.
"I’ve joined the worldwide Parkinson's initiative, and I do hope
you’ll do the same. Please sign up to the global Parkinson's pledge
and join me in the movement for change."

"I know that when my mother was diagnosed neither of us thought
very much of it.
"We thought she'd just have to put up with having shaky hands
and not being able to open a tin of peas on her own. We had
absolutely no idea of what lay in store.
"A breakthrough that just makes the condition easier to live
with would make a huge difference to all those who have it and all
those who care about them.
"I urge anyone who has a connection to or interest in
Parkinson's to be part of the movement for change."
