2011 was the year that…

More individuals, groups and organisations supported us than ever before.

  • The Parkinson's community supported nearly 27,000 people through our UK-wide network of volunteer-run local groups.

  • We developed innovative ways for people affected by Parkinson's to support each other, for example through our new telephone peer support service.

  • Thanks to our support, nearly 95,000 people with Parkinson's now have access to a Parkinson's nurse - 18,000 more than in 2010.

  • We sent out just under 800,000 information booklets, leaflets and DVDs to people affected by Parkinson's, an 18% increase on 2010.

  • We put 5,400 stories in the media, reaching an audience of almost 270 million people – coverage which if we'd had to pay for it would have cost us over
    £12million.

Nearly 95,000 people with Parkinson's now have access to a Parkinson's nurse.

  • Research we funded played a major part in genetics and stem cell research breakthroughs that will significantly speed up our research for a cure.

  • Local groups contributed more than £1million towards research. And more than 100 people affected by Parkinson's helped us judge the highest-quality and most relevant research to fund.

  • More individuals, groups and organisations supported us than ever before. Take our London Marathon team, who raised more than £350,000 for us, the highest ever amount raised for us from this event.

  • Our information and support workers helped people claim more than £9million in benefits.

  • We were named as the Charity Times Charity of the Year.
