14 December
Over 1500 guests attended the 26th Parkinson’s Disease Society
(PDS) Christmas Carol Concert on Wednesday 12 December - the
biggest audience in the event’s history.
Jane Asher, the president of the PDS, hosted proceedings, which
were held in the beautiful Westminster Cathedral in central London.
Joining her were Richard Briers CBE, Michael Palin CBE and Phyllida
Law who all gave readings at the concert.
The Ealing Choral Society, Sing for Joy Choir, the Wessex
Male Choir and the Crystal Palace Band, provided the evening’s
music. Renowned saxophonist Barbara Thompson also performed.
The concert was of particular significance as it was the last
conducted by James Gaddarn, the conductor for the Ealing Choral
Society. James has performed with the Choral Society at PDS
Carol Concerts for the past 26 years. Bill Neely, International
Editor for ITV news, presented James with an engraved decanter in
thanks for his tremendous support over the years.
The evening concluded with a mince pie and mulled wine
reception.
Steve Ford, Chief Executive of the Parkinson’s Disease Society
said:
“This year’s Carol Concert was the most successful in the
event's history and I was extremely pleased to see so many of our
supporters at Westminster Cathedral enjoying the festive
entertainment. As always, the concert provided us with a great way
of celebrating the work done by everyone involved with the PDS at
the end of another successful year.”
