Transcript - Our story
As the UK's Parkinson's support and research charity we're
leading the work to find a cure, and we're closer than ever.
Watch our story to find out why we think it's time to change
attitudes, find a cure and ask people to join us.
Our story
John: Not everyone with Parkinson's is old.
Change attitudes
Karen: I've had it for about 13 years now.
Dennis: 3 years
Barry: 15 years
John: I've had Parkinson's since I was 19 years old.
Hazel: Every hour someone in the UK is told they have
Parkinson's.
Charlotte: 1 in 20 of them is under the age of 40.
John: When I was diagnosed it was scary, it was an emotional
period. I knew nothing about Parkinson's, its effects.
Hazel: But if anyone does know anything about it they would
imagine that everyone would be the same, and that's not true.
Liz: I may look like I can do anything, lots of things, but I
really can't.
Hywel: We don't all have a tremor. We don't all shake.
Arumugam: Every morning about 6 to 7 I do some exercise and
still I'm fighting.
Christine: Some you wouldn't know they've got it at
all.
Find a cure
John: Wow. If they found a cure, wow. I’d be able to get
back to work. It’d mean I’d be able to pick up and play with my
kids.
Dennis: Finding a cure would take away the uncertainty that
surrounds my life.
Karen: They just need to find that little piece of jigsaw that
hopefully one day will find a cure or at least a better way of
actually controlling the disease with medication.
Tilo: As the country's biggest research and support charity
we're leading the work to find a cure, and we're closer than ever.
Our research has already helped make life easier for people with
Parkinson's but until we find a cure our work is not done.
Arumugam: To get a cure with medicine and everything, I'd be the
happiest man in the world.
Join us
Dorothy: Because we’re here no one has to face Parkinson's
alone.
Lubna: We offer information and support via our helpline,
website, specialist staff and nurses.
Karen: We bring people with Parkinson's together with their
families and carers via a network of local groups.
Stephen: We also campaign to improve understanding of
Parkinson's and demand better services.
Siân: Without the generosity of people like you our work
wouldn't be possible.
Pat: Help us support everyone affected by Parkinson's.
Callum: With your help we can find a cure for my grandad.
Together we can beat it.
A cure can't wait.
We can do it.
You're not alone.
Help us find a cure.
Hywel: Join us.

We've changed
We changed our name to Parkinson's UK in April 2010. The
