Well done to our Stirling Pedal for Parkinson's cyclists
6 August 2012
This weekend saw 142 of our fundraisers get on their bikes, out
into the sunshine and into the Olympic spirit.
A big thank you and congratulations to our magnificent team who
cycled 20 and 60 miles through the Stirling countryside
yesterday.
The cycle ride was the penultimate in a series of 4 one-day
fundraising events called Pedal for
Parkinson's.
Parkinson's nurse cycles 60 miles
Linda Patterson, 46 (pictured right), from Laurencekirk cycled
the 60-mile route. Linda has been working as a specialist Parkinson's nurse since 2008.
Linda explains:
"I wanted to fundraise to help support Parkinson's nurses, as
the charity supported me in my role as a Parkinson's nurse for the
first 2 years of my post.
"I had a fantastic day and completed the 60 miles in just under
4 hours.
"It was great to see local people in Stirling leaning out of
their windows waving Union flags, and shouting out words of
encouragement as we cycled past their houses."
Vital funds raised for Parkinson's nurses
It was great to see local people in Stirling leaning out of their windows waving Union flags, and shouting out words of encouragement as we cycled past their houses.
We are aiming to raise a combined £45,000 from the Pedal for
Parkinson's events to fund our specialist Parkinson's nurses.
Paul Jackson-Clark, our Director of Fundraising, said:
"I would like to congratulate and say a big thank you to
everyone who took to their bikes for us this weekend. I hope
everyone had a day to remember.
"Without the continued help of our fundraisers, our vital work
to find a cure and improve the lives of those living with Parkinson's would not be possible."
