Chocolat author presents Mervyn Peake Awards to winners

Winners of the Mervyn Peake Awards
were presented with their awards on Friday 9 July 2010, at
Westminster Central Hall, London.
Chocolat author Joanne Harris (pictured
right) joined Sebastian Peake, son of the late Mervyn
Peake, to present the awards, which celebrate the creative talent
of people with Parkinson's in art, poetry and photography.
Speaking at the awards, Steve Ford, our Chief Executive, said:
"The creativity, passion and determination found in these entries
are exactly the things that we need to capture to deliver our
vision and that's why we are really grateful to everybody who has
taken part."
2010 winners
The 3 talented winners beat competition from 425 other entries.
They are:
- Glynis Buckham, 57, from West Glamorgan, for her poem, A
Constant Boarding
- Ann Galloway, from Sunderland, for her painting, A Healing
Stream
- Elizabeth Gabriel, from Somerset, for her photograph,
American with Great Grandmother

About the awards
The Mervyn Peake Awards are held in memory of the late
illustrator, writer and poet Mervyn Peake (1911-1968), whose works
included Gormenghast and the Alice in Wonderland
illustrations, and who developed Parkinson's in later life.
The awards are supported by the Peake family and were
established in 2002.
