Call for Fair Care for Parkinson's at party conferences
21 September 2009
The Parkinson's Disease Society (PDS) is taking the Fair Care for
Parkinson's campaign messages to the Conservative, Labour and
Liberal Democrat Party conferences this year, lobbying for equal
access to health and social services for everyone affected by
Parkinson's.
Fringe events
We are holding a fringe event at each party conference
called 'Whitehall to the town hall - no longer a national health
service?'
The fringe events are being hosted in partnership with the
British Dental Association, the Association of British Healthcare
Industries and Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
These events are an opportunity for the organisations to tell
the Government how consistently high-quality care can be achieved,
no matter where people live.
Meetings with MPs and spokespeople
Parkinson's Disease Society
representatives will hold a number of one-to-one meetings
with key MPs and frontbench spokespeople on the issues affecting
people with Parkinson's.
These include Ann Keen MP (pictured right), Under Secretary of
State for Health Services, and Norman Lamb MP, Liberal Democrat
Shadow Secretary of State for Health.
Big Care Reception
The Parkinson's Disease Society is also part of a coalition
of 20 organisations hosting the Big Care reception at the Labour
Party Conference, in response to the Government's Big Care Debate.
We are calling for action to improve social care.
We will also have an opportunity to attend other events,
raising the profile of the Society and talking with health teams
from each political party about issues affecting people with
Parkinson's.
