Thanks to all of our Great North Run athletes
20 September 2011
Our 250-strong team of runners ran the Bupa Great North Run last weekend and we want to
say a big thank you to them all.
Our
runners were part of the 54,000 athletes who took part in the 13.1
mile run in the North East of England.

Ian Cant, 40 (pictured right), from Pontefract ran the Great
North Run for his mother-in-law who has Parkinson's.
Ian said: "I ran the Great North Run to raise money for
Parkinson's UK because my mother-in-law has the condition. It has
completely changed her life and impacted heavily on her. I felt
that it was a small way that I could help.
"The best part of the day for me was the atmosphere and sense of
occasion. The crowds who turn up to watch are so supportive, and
running with others who have their own causes to run for is a
really humbling experience.
"All in all I am hoping to raise £1,000 and will definitely run
for Parkinson's UK again."
Taking part makes a big difference

If a friend or relative ran for Parkinson's UK, please remember
to sponsor them. We are hoping to raise £90,000 from the run.
Our work is totally dependent on donations and all the money raised will go
towards helping us find a cure and
improving life for everyone affected by Parkinson's.
Paul Jackson-Clark, our Fundraising Director, said: "I would
like to send my congratulations and thanks to each and every one of
our Great North Run athletes, who have been working hard to raise
valuable funds to support our work.
"Without the help of our fundraisers our vital work would not be possible."
