Parkinson's UK awarded Charity of the Year at Charity Times Awards
13 October 2011
Last night we won a prestigious Charity of the Year award at the
Charity Times Awards.
The Charity Times Awards acknowledge and encourage best practice
in the management of charities and not-for-profit
organisations.
Stiff competition from other charities
It's a testament to all the incredible work that our staff and volunteers do every day all across the country.
Steve Ford, Chief Executive
We were nominated and won the 'Charity of the Year with income
of more than £1million' category.
We beat off stiff competition from 6 other charities and
not-for-profit organisations:
Action Against Hunger,
Build Africa, Dogs for the Disabled,
Reprieve, Football Foundation,
and Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air
Ambulance.
The judges commented:
"With a new brand and a new strategy, many of the ambitious
goals set, especially in fundraising and raising awareness, have
already been achieved or surpassed, transforming the charity with
outstanding results."
Increasing awareness of Parkinson's
Our Chief Executive, Steve Ford, comments:
"I'm thrilled that we won such a prestigious award last
night.
"It's a testament to all the incredible work that our staff and
volunteers do every day all across the country.
"It also demonstrates that since our
rebrand we have increased awareness of Parkinson's, and our
role as the UK's leading research and support charity for the
condition."

Proud of what we've achieved
Christine Ball, Secretary of our Merton
Branch in South West London, also attended the event. She
adds:
"As ours was the last category to be announced my heart was
beating fast. The suspense was exhilarating.
"There were so many other worthy charities. I'm so proud of what
we have achieved."
