Our structure

The structure of the Parkinson's Disease Society has been developed to ensure that we make a real difference to the lives of all people with Parkinson's wherever they live in the UK.

Directorates

Communications

The Communications Department is responsible for the external profile of the Parkinson's Disease Society, planning and implementing a proactive and integrated communications strategy working across the organisation.

This includes promoting the Society nationally and regionally through media relations, marketing, brand development and advertising.

It also includes the development and maintenance of the website and digital media and the responsibility for internal communications.

Community Services

Working across the UK at a local level the Community Services Directorate, through its staff and supporter network, aims to reach out to and support all people with Parkinson's disease, their families and carers.

We aim to achieve this by:

  • Working in partnership with our volunteers
  • Maximising the support to our branch and support group network
  • Working collaboratively with all those who have an interest in supporting people with Parkinson's, their families and carers
  • Offering education and information to professionals working with people who have Parkinson's
  • Using our expertise and knowledge of the condition to ensure that more and better services are available locally from health and social care agencies

Finance and Administration

The Finance and Administration Directorate is responsible for the financial management and infrastructure requirements of the Society's National Office, regional offices and home based staff.

The Directorate determines and implements the policies relating to, and management of legal matters, management and statutory reporting for the Society (annual income of approximately £14million) and its trading subsidiary, technical and physical infrastructure.

Communication and exchange of information with staff, branches, donors, suppliers and auditors is an important part of the work of the Directorate.

Fundraising

The Fundraising Directorate develops, implements and delivers cost effective fundraising and marketing activities in order to deliver agreed annual targets for growth in long term sustainable income from a wide range of sources, including solicited and unsolicited support from individual donors, trusts and companies and from events, as part of an overall strategy to maximise income for, and raise the profile of, the Parkinson's Disease Society.

The Directorate also markets the Society's Membership programme and manages the operation of the Society's trading subsidiary P.D.S. (Sales) Ltd, including pricing, packaging, supply, sales, and distribution, and the research, planning and development of new products and services.

Human Resources

The Human Resources Directorate contributes to the Society at both strategic and operational levels in the areas of resourcing, employee relations, learning and development, and compensation and benefits.

The nature of the function is a professional advisory role to directors, managers and employees and has a key role in leading on the shaping of organisational development, by implementation and operation of HR policies and procedures for the effective management and development of employees.

Policy, Campaigns and Information

The Policy, Campaigns and Information Directorate provides a UK advisory service regarding Parkinson's disease and relevant health and social care services.

The Directorate develops, produces and distributes the Society's information resources and takes a lead on professional education and engagement at national level. It also develops and implements PDS national policy and campaigns initiatives.

The Directorate works closely with other internal departments, particularly with the Community Services Directorate, supporting where appropriate the implementation of local objectives.
