Jane Asher, President
Jane Asher became President of the Parkinson's Disease
Society in February 2007, having previously been a supporter
for three years.
Jane says:
"I first began supporting the Society for personal reasons -
unlike in the case of the other charitable positions that I hold -
when my brother-in-law was diagnosed a couple of years
ago.
I quickly became very impressed by all those involved in the
charity, and I wanted to work with them to help spread awareness of
this very debilitating and distressing condition.
It's vital that we raise the funds needed to continue
the excellent progress being made in research and to maintain and
increase the improvements in care and treatment of those
affected."
Jane is a successful actress, author and businesswoman. She has
been working professionally in film, theatre and radio since she
was 5 years old. She runs her successful cake business – Jane Asher
Party Cakes, in Chelsea, London, and has also written more than a
dozen books, including three best-selling novels. Her latest book,
Beautiful Baking, was published in the autumn.
Most recently, Jane was seen at the Royal Court Theatre in
The World’s Biggest Diamond, and will be appearing in a
new play in the West End in 2008. She is a regular guest character
in Holby City, for BBC1 and has recently been filming in Lithuania
for a new primetime ITV1 drama series, The Palace, to be shown in
January. Her latest film, Death at a Funeral, directed by
